It is like the after the game press conference where the coach complains about the officiating.
Saying "I thought the refs made some calls I don't agree with" is usually okay.
Saying "I thought the refs sucked and made some major mistakes" gets you a fine.

I suppose you have a point but at the end of the day this is a political forum in which criticisms abound and are aimed at everyone.

While I agree that the mods do and should have a special role and special powers here I also feel that at the end of the day if they are going to inject their beliefs into a political discussion then they as well have to be open to discussion and criticism as well.

Perhaps I should have sugar coated it but I DID NOT personally attack any mod. I simply disagreed with what they did.

First and foremost, this thread is likely to be highly offensive to our African American members, and I want them to personally accept my apology that they are subjected to having to read this. If it were any more blatant, I would immediately have locked it.

In the spirit of open dialogue and the expression of ideas, I am leaving this open *for now*. We will be having a discussion among moderators about this thread. At the very least, this goes right up to the line of what is acceptable comments at Anandtech. It is only because this thread has remained a political discussion that I haven't taken sharp action.

For my own sake, let me say that I am utterly disgusted by the thread title, and it is painful to read, and even more painful to be reminded that people think this way.

That statement by the mod in my mind opens him or her up to the discussion as well. The mods simply could have allowed the thread and if it got too crazy they could have locked it.

Instead they began the thread with one of their own making a political statement in bold for everyone to see.

I stand by my statement that if you are going to make a political statement on a political board then you have to allow the political discourse that goes along with that statement.

I also stand by my statement that at the end of the day every other race, class, color, and creed is bashed on this board at one time or another and they do not get personal apologies in bold from any moderators.

This does a disservice both to the board and to black people by assuming that they can't handle constructive criticism which is patronizing in a way worse than most of you probably realize.

If you think the Civil War was fought to end slavery, you're deluded. You need to read up on your history. It was fought to keep the union intact.

And I'm not giving either party a pass. They both dwell in the past.

LOL, Had there been no slavery, there would have been no war. Had there been no moral condemnation of slavery, there would have been no war.

Had there been no America, there also would've been no war. See how your simplistic argument (doesn't) work(s)? Perhaps you are confused about primary objectives and secondary or residual outcomes. Lincoln could've cared less if slaves were freed. As I stated earlier, he even wanted to ship them back to Africa.

Lincoln is just one man and I'm sure he would have preferred to avoid a war. The South started the war by leaving the Union and the reason they left was not only to keep their slaves, but to expand the territory where they could own slaves.

So the war was over the South's perceived right to own slaves which most Northern people considered as immoral, even back then.

You don't speak for Lincoln so don't even try. Let the record speak for themselves and it shows Lincoln not giving a damn about slaves. As I just mentioned, even Union states had slavery.

LOL @ the troll. The war was caused by slavery. The South wanted it, the North didn't. If you have a different view, then PLEASE enlighten us.

You must have a problem with reading.

Not as bad as your problem..... explaining.

I do have a "parting shot" for you. How do the African Americans justify identifing with their brethern in Africa considering that they are largely responsible for capturing their ancestors and selling them to the white devils as slaves?

They don't.

Look... being a MOD in P&N has to suck because we are a bunch of pain the ass trouble causers. (And this includes the MODs who post here too.)

Now I may not agree with what Rio did, but I think he had the best intentions in mind, and he is new to the MOD thing so I cut him some slack, and you should too.

Personally I think the MODs should be like the guys in stripes at a sports game, you either call the foul or you don't, but you don't stop the game to say "Wow, that was almost pass interference, but I'm going to let it slide. But on behalf of the refs I would like to apologize to the other team for that touchdown."

I 100% agree with what you said and I used to be a mod at a much smaller political forum and so I can identify with what Rio goes through (though not with the scale).

I also 100% agree with your analogy and I hope the mods and Rio especially don't see me as trying to attack them personally. I harbor no ill will towards any of them and have no issues with any of them.

However, I do reserve the right to disagree with them if they make political statements in political threads.
