Black ops 2 or something else?

I have purchased every COD game that's been on the PC platform. I generally only play the single player campaign or at least that's what I did on the last couple. I couldn't stand Black Ops but can't remember if that was the one released last year since there seemed to be a rotation going on.
I haven't even played any games in a long time but wanted to get something to occasionally play over the next few months.

I know Black Ops 2 is coming out next week and its the obvious choice but I'm not sure ill like it since I didn't care for BlackOps. It was mainly the graphics I didn't like. Seemed cartoony from what I remember.

I've heard of Medal of Honor: Warfighter but haven't seen any gameplay.

Any suggestions?

Warfighter was ok.. not great..

BO2 is going to be a straight out console port including no user hosted dedicated servers and a severely locked FOV ( 80)
No console access and limited graphical options.

The premise looks interesting as they went to the future so lots of original ideas there.. but overall I'm thinking a pass or wait for a sale.

Thanks for the info. Since I really don't care much for multiplayer, I don't think the dedicated server issue would matter much. Whats FOV (80)?

I'm not sure about the console access? Limited graphic options? That would stink.

Ugh, not sure what to do.

Field of view. It's how much of the world you can see around you. I think most of the cod games have been locked at 80. It's not too too bad. It would be nice to be able to adjust your FOV. A lot of people prefer fov 90. Some DMers prefer something more extreme like FOV 120 but that's a little too fish eyed for me.

Console access means you don't have access to a command line to tweak game settings/options. Such as "sensitivity 1.x". You'd have to use built in game options.

I prefered black ops over mw3 personally.

I was actually sorta excited for Black Ops 2 as the story goes it would take advantage of newer hardware and sorta bring back in the pc crowd and killing off windows xp support sorta mean't it might have been pushing as far as graphics goes.

Then the whole preorder the game and you get Nuketown 2025 or whatever,i was like wow,if you look closely you can tell they changed little in that, there is cars and buildings and the layout is 110% the same...buy the same map twice!

Hope i am wrong,I do own Black Ops but i know for the most part every other cod game is the same and its the only cod game in my library.

Black ops felt different to me than mw3. I'm pretty sure they have different developers. treyarch/infinity ward.

I won't be buying a COD game until they release something that isn't just another COD4 map pack. Black Ops 2 is another COD4 map pack.

it's been proven that the smaller FOVs especially on a PC screen can induce headaches to some.. ( like myself)
so that is a deal breaker for me as it will give me a migraine.

To be fair it does have more new stuff than just maps.

It's more of an expansion really.

Shouldn't cost $60 that's for sure.

No I definitely agree. I prefer 90 at least but I just wanted to point out that the previous game he played was probably 80 also. Crappy fov was one of the things I hated about the first borderlands. You could bind your movement keys to fov 90 but that would break every so often.

The single player campaigns in CoD, BF, and MoH are so short I wouldnt bother with any of them until they hit the bargain bin. Multi-player is where its at with those titles.

You want a very good single player FPS, then get MOHWF hands down. Graphics look great!

I wouldn't bother...aim for Far Cry 3
I do agree I can't wait for Far Cry 3, I'm about to pre-order the deluxe edition Region free for $35!

how are you paying for it twice if you get it free with pre-order? tons of sequels have added popular maps from the previous game with very little changes.

Regarding Black Ops II, 80fov isn't all that bad, but I was reading on the Steam forums that the first patch is going to bump that up to 90

Yeah, a dev tweeted that there will be a post launch patch for PC that will set FOV to 90: https://twitter.com/pcdev/status/267646007049854976

I looked at some videos, sure this isn't Crysis or BF3, but the game doesn't look bad, they upgrade the engine every year. If you can't play a game that doesn't reduce your GTX 690 to 20 FPS on max settings, this isn't the game for you. If you aren't bothered by average graphics and enjoy these kinds of games, buy it. Entertainment value is all that matters at the end of the day.

CoD is always a yawn fest for me and it isn't about the graphics all the time although it wouldn't hurt if they rebuilt on a new engine that was more impressive with better AI.

I have to say BLOPS 2 was the first full price game i have purchased on Steam. I have it predownloaded, what time do they normally unlock games?

No, they don't. They've done minor tweaks here and there, but this is largely still COD4's engine. Do you know what 'upgrade the engine' means? That means leaps like the engine upgrades between Doom and Quake, Quake to Quake2, Quake2 to Quake 3, etc. Blops2 is just another expansion pack/mission pack for Call of Duty 4.

I can't speak for the gameplay experience of single-player Blops2, but as far as graphics are concerned, it looks like Atari 2600 back to back with Medal of Honor Warfighter. It might still be a better single player game than MOHW though, even though MOHW had a different dev team, BF3 had a pretty generic single-player campaign.

Wrong, you're creating a false definition of a word to suit your argument. Upgrade doesn't mean leaps and bounds ahead of what was replaced, I'm not going to bother with a dictionary, you know this. You would say a "huge upgrade" or something along those lines to denote such an improvement. While I will concede that the engine used only receives minor upgrades, it's still an upgrade nonetheless, the new is better than the old. BLOPS 2 uses DX 11 -- upgrade. The question isn't upgrade or not an upgrade, but how much of an upgrade.

I've never owned a CoD game, but just look at some videos, BLOPS 2 looks noticeably better than CoD 4, the engine has been upgraded. I'm certain you'll come back and reply with "semantics", but to someone like me who has no stake in the argument, is neither a fanboy or a hater, the engine has clearly been upgraded over the years. How big of an upgrade is the only debate, to argue that there has been no upgrade, no improvement at all, is a point you can't successfully argue.

Steam doesn't list any time zone, which leads me to believe it will unlock immediately on Nov 13th, so some time zones will get it before others. The Steam page for the game will tell you how many hours until it unlocks: http://store.steampowered.com/app/202970/

mine is showing to unlock at 2am CST.. usually the countdown is for the timezone the game company sets for unlock.

last few have unlocked at 11PM for me this one is showing 2am.
