Not only is banning public sector unions without trying to reform them a terrible idea because it will eliminate any bargaining power for certain things to workers...

But on top of that it will also be a springboard for the right wing to ban all unions.

I understand and agree with the dynamic you describe in terms of how police can become racist on the job. And I don't dispute that this includes black police officers. However, I think we should expect black officers to be less racist on average than white police officers. Because racism hinges on buying into to stereotypes, in this case the stereotype being that young black man are violent criminals. A white cop might not know too many black people outside the job. While black cops have black family, and probably black friends, may have grown up in black neighborhoods, and so are familiar with lots of law abiding black people.

In this case, there were 5 black cops. I highly doubt all 5 of them were racist enough that this was the primary motive behind this.

Still, I want to know why Nichols was pulled over to begin with. They said suspicion of reckless driving, but the investigation found "no probable cause" for the stop. And it's clear they never saw reckless driving, because when police pull someone over for reckless driving, it isn't just for suspicion of reckless driving but always also for suspicion of DUI. A breathalizer and field sobriety test are going to be given every time in a reckless driving stop. Unless I missed part of a tape, there isn't any such thing depicted on those tapes, meaning that is not why he was pulled over. It remains a mystery.

There's a rumor going around that Nichols was romantically involved with one of the 5 cops ex-wives, and the cop knew about it, and they'd had run ins in the past. Just a rumor, but it would fit and would explain partially why a stop with no reason took place. To fuck with him. If this story ends up being remotely true, I'd expect to hear way more about it as the trials approach.

Haven't heard the rumor, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. Because the possible reasons for the stop - we know he wasn't stopped for reckless driving - are few. So a personal connection is not out of the question.

But, like, fskimospy really hates teacher unions so, like, fuck you. That's pretty much his argument at this point. So look forward to him shitting all over multiple threads to keep making sure we know, just like he does with his housing arguments.

Is that why all the big left leaning tech companies have gone out of their way to prevent unions? Because of the right wingers? People in charge don't want workers having too power.

the companies are left socially because it is more profitable to do so. if right wingers were in the majority and loaded with money, they wouldn't give a shit. when it comes to economics, they are conservative in the sense that want every possible tax break, freedom from regulation, and power over workers.

Um...yes?
In what way are 'big tech companies' 'left-leaning', incidentally?

So weird how the right has taken to denouncing the capitalist class as being commie Marxists.

[Edit] Actually, on second-thoughts, it's not so much weird as slightly scary, given that that sort of right-wing anti-capitalism was historically a distinctive characteristic of fascism. The next step being to associate both capitalists and socialists with 'the Jews'.

Republicans silent on the death of Tyre Nichols

Suckabee Sanders was too busy talking about the woke mob agenda. Whatever that is

I'm guessing that recent report about one of the 5 cops taking pics of Nichols after the beating and texting them out has some legs to it. One of the recipients was a civilian female. Possibly lines up with some of the earlier reports that Nichols was involved with an ex of one of the officers. If true, those charges likely get bumped up. Stay tuned.

DAMN! I hope the family sues the city out of existence. Of course since Trump removed the database that tracked corrupt cops nationwide they will be able to move and get new jobs

As for Tyre Nichols, he was not given a chance to comply. That much is certain.
We witnessed a murder on that video.
And murder is legal. Even approved by a Jury of "peers".
This is going to be a very violent summer, isn't it.

Which United States city is going to be a stand in for the Ghorman massacre?

I'm trying to reconcile what I saw on the video with the jury's verdict. :(

The courtroom must have gone a great job gaslighting those present, into believing there are no human rights. And that the victim twitching on the ground deserved it.
Russia has trials too.

These outcomes exist because we are still only human. That fact helps us arrive at some great and terrible shortcomings. Such as believing stories that are told to us, over our own lying eyes.
