Black Monitor Screen

I have a CTX LCD that was working fine, then suddenly there was a black screen. I turned the monitor off for a moment then switched it back on and could see the screen image for a split second before it cut off again. I did this several times, then rebooted to see if that would help. While it was booting I could see the screen image come on for a brief moment then cut off again. Same as before.

This monitor had some trouble about two years ago and went back to the mfr for repair as it was still under the warranty. Now it's not. I can't get the CTX website to load tonight either.

I made no changes in the display or to any part of the computer, I was just working and then POOF - no more image. A different monitor works just fine on the same machine.

What could be wrong with the CTX?

It sounds like the backlight for the LCD has failed. With the monitor turned on, turn off the lights in the surrounding area and shine a small flashlight at the screen on an angle. If you can see a shadow of the image that should be on the screen, then the monitor is still displaying the picture normally and it probably just needs to have the backlight bulb replaced. If there is no image at all, then it is more likely to be a failed controller board in the monitor or a broken cable/loose connection.

You made it sound like replacing the backlight bulb is a simple thing, but CTX tech support says they can't even do it in their repair shop.

Maybe I got the wrong info from them and they just want me to buy a new monitor instead?

Someone please tell me the facts? If this is a simple repair then I want to know how it's done, and if it's not even possible then I need to know that too.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a simple thing for someone who's handy with electronic repairs, which I am not. Hope I can find someone to do it for me. Thanks for the great lead!
