The problem with situations like this is that it's something a white person doesn't even have to deal with. Most if they haven't had it happen to them can't even comprehend what it's like.

I lived in a part of the US where my demographic was only 4% of the population for 150 miles in any direction. I assure you, racism, slurs, and race-based violence against my minority group was rampant.

But the total shits given was zero because I'm white the population was hispanic (about 50% mexican nationals).

The assailant has no right to hit anyone for something said to him, but I get why he was pissed off so I don't think it's likely something endemic to the character of the assailant. Depending on the damage done, some length of parol w/ no time served is probably called for.

I think you're not quite seeing the politics of this case.

This happened in NYC. There WILL be black people and other ethnic "minorities" on the jury.

Will there be a black or white prosecutor? Maybe a neutral third color? Can you see a white prosecutor speaking to black people on a jury saying "You should find this man guilty and put him in jail. He has no right to defend himself when a person gets in his face and calls him a n***er multiple times. He needs to just deal with it and walk away (with his tail between his legs)."

Sorry, he's never gonna be found guilty by a jury of his peers unless it's some petty charge won't get him any jail time or major fines. In all likelihood it will be plead out to basically nothing as nobody in the DA's office will want the publicity from prosecuting the case in a courtroom.

Edit: Whitey was a laid off Goldman Sachs employee? LOL. Not a chance in hell this case will ever go to trial or that the assailant serves time.
We will have to wait and see. He will be found guilty. The jury will not sentence him, though.
It won't go to trial, he will plea out. He would get demolished in a trial, and even a public defender would advise him of that.
That could happen, too. If the guy makes a full recovery (my guess is that's unlikely) it will go better for him, but if the guy dies or testifies that he has some kind of permanent disability the assailant is screwed.

Yeah, I said years in prison but would like to caveat that depends on what happens. If the guy makes full recovery the guy who hit will get far less of a punishment.

pretty much. fled, and left his GF there. that's pretty ridiculous.

I can get why he punched the dude, though. Sounds like it was more than just being called a nagger one time.

Thanks for reminding me of that great south park episode:

He's probably fine : http://newsone.com/2632823/douglas-reddish-goldman-sachs/

Looks like he just took one to the jaw and went down for the count, and good riddance. More people in this world deserve to be knocked out anyway.

All the guy has to do is ask for a trial by jury and he's golden.

To be fair being a young black man, violence and the police is usually a bad combo.

true--it's probably understandable from his perspective, in a way. He may be conditioned to flee.

Still, doesn't really excuse his further attempt to brain the dude and flee.

Shame is that this dumb asshole that got smacked around, being at the bottom of a long dark hole in his life, it seems, may not learn this lesson that was handed to him. In fact, he will probably profit out of it. Sad.
