Black lawmakers think some cities are too white

Well, he's kinda right. I actually live in one of those cities. We only incorporated as a city a few years ago. One of the main reasons we incorporated was to keep property taxes from leaving the area to pay for the poorer parts of the county. The actual area is something like 82% white. Despite that my high school the year I graduated was something like 57% black.

Edit: Well, according to the article I guess my area is closer to 70% white.

This is why I favor repealing all post-Counterrevolution Amendments, and leaving everything to the States.

I guess 40 majority majority districts isn't enough. I bet a decade from now, we'll see about 80.

So let me get this straight. A group of people, INCLUDING minorities decided they would rather have their tax money work for them, instead of someone else? This is racially motivated how?
The only motivation I see i keeping tax dollars at home.

Rather read what you want out of the article, just actually read it to get all the facts. What they are saying is in short they are redistricting counties that are creating white majorities in certain districts.

They've been complaining about this for awhile, it doesn't have anything to do with race.

This isn't the first 'reverend' to try and tie race into it in order to make a buck.

I said kinda right. It's more economically motivated than racially (though I'm sure some had race in mind). It happens to be that my area is kinda expensive to live in and the white people are the ones that are able to afford living here.

Just apply Affirmative Action to elections, if the election is within less than say 10%, minority candidate wins. Seems a logical extension of the reasoning...

And is not adhering to a Robin Hood tax scheme just a white issue? Obviously not because there are minorities living in those cities, probably with the same concerns as the non-minorities when it comes to their property taxes. And how does any of that infringe on how someone votes, which is the basis of their argument.

And as we all know, white people all vote the same, and white politicians are all just mirrors of each other. Michele Bachman = just a Nancy Pelosi clone!

I'm not understanding why any community that was say 100% white would ever want any minorities moving to it, save for perhaps Asian, when they could attempt through legal means to keep it 100% white? How F'ing stupid would they be to not work to make that - keeping it 100% white - happen?

Really the problem is keeping it at a certain class status, however, once whites see minorities moving into their locales, if they're smart and have the means to do so, they'll move the F away to not have to "deal with the problem" of minorities moving into their locale. And, by doing so, in greater and greater numbers, they sabotage their own locale: White Flight.

WF is really only good for the whites who realized the problem/"the problem", and got out while it was financially smart to do so. Those left are F'd. For those that did get out, from their position, for sure they made the smart move...

Just the way it is...

Oh, I completely understand, I wouldn't either if I was them. To the white people in the white communities though, that's not their problem....until those black people start moving in. Then the black peoples problem (in that case) has been made the white peoples problem (in that case), and the white people solve it either by jacking property taxes through the roof, and/or, by WF.

It's only somewhat ironic that the illegal invasion Mexican's have the same type of deal going on - where they solve their problem, only to create problems for those where they move.

At least with the illegal invasion problem, we could actually stop it if we so wished (which those in power don't/won't do)...

it'd be one thing if the city were carved out of an existing city (as then the wealthy could avoid paying for social services and things they may not directly use but benefit the entire region without moving, but even then that's not really voting dilution but tax base dilution). but it sounds like it was taken out of an unincorporated portion of the county. so they should still have to pay county taxes. :hmm:

Also, the idea of white flight is bullshit. A few weeks or months ago we had a thread about white flight maps, but the maps actually showed the opposite of "white" flight. The middle of towns like Baltimore and Detroit were mostly black, but the surrounding area was actually a mixture of white European, Hispanic, and Asian. It's not like the outside community is all white people. It has Asian people too.

I think where I live the county gets a smaller share of the taxes from incorporated areas due to not providing services there(like police protection, planning services, drainage ETC)

but I could be misinformed
