Usually B&M for Xmas type presents. Food Stores, Kmart, and Walmart will usually try to give out good post-turkey day deals on food too.

Most of the year retailers are in the red for profit margins. On that Friday is usually when they get in the black, or finally turn a profit for the year.

I hear you!

At least some of the stores in a mall near me will be open from 5AM--10PM the day after Thanksgiving.

Hmmm... I always thought it was 'cause of all the insane, rude and down right mean, cheap-a@@, money-grubbing human scum that come charging out of the wood work, elbows flying, tampling over the weak and the elderly so they can be the first in line to save a buck. Black Friday... a mockery<sp?> of a name to celebrate the "offical" start to the season of giving...

note: I know most people are well mannered when they shop, but there are some people (like this b*tch who started bangin' on the stores' door and yellin' at the employees when it was, according to her watch, 1 minute past opening time) need to be slapped.

The stores are betting that you will not just buy the deals but also pick up some other things which is why B&M is still way more profitible than the e-stores.

Sometimes on the websites. Last year Staples was doing it until noon and in limited numbers on the site.

Beware if you do the B&M thing. Arrive early!

I went to Best Buy last year and it was INSANE. There were over 400 people in line in front of me, and that was an hour before the store opened. Absolute insanity.

Do stores usually advertise their sales before Black Friday.....say in the newspaper on Thanksgiving? Or is it more of a show up and see what sales there are thing? I usually dont' pay any attention to Black Friday, but if someone is going to have a good deal on the Samsung Syncmaster 191T, I might have to force myself to go to the mall.

yes, stores usually advert the heck outta everything for B-friday. Of course what they advertise they usually only have 10 of so that means there are going to be 10 happy people and 390 pissed off ones 2 minutes after the doors open. ;)
