There are so many laptops for sale. I'd like to stay out of the low end and get something a bit better. I'd prefer... well, I insist its AMD based, and have somewhat acceptable game playing ability.

Can any of you recommend one that you have stumbled across

There's an acer at circuit city for $799... Turion ML-30, 100GB hard drive, 1 GB ram, etc... I would go for this one.

Wait for a dell deal unless you can find a lappy with a decent videocard retail...
I don't know what you consider acceptable for gaming... below a 6800 go for me is not acceptable.
I just bought this through Dell EPP this week.

9300 inspiron
PM740 1.73ghz
17" UXGA w/Truelife
512mb ddr2
256mb 6800 nvidia go
60GB 5400rpm
XP MCE w/backup cd
intel 2200 wireless nic
dvd8x/cd burner
4yr limited warranty, at home service, hw warranty support.

My total price was 1067.94 after tax and a $70 MIR.
In addition to this price I spent another $150.00 total on 2x1gb sticks of transcend samsung sodim chips from newegg.
The hard drive is the only thing that's going to limit this lappy's performance. The 1.73 isn't that fast but really are you going to find a retail deal like that?
Of course this is more of a desktop replacement than a mobile machine, depending your needs I would still give Dell a good look.

Well, this is kind of irrelevant now, because the day is over, but I want a AMD-based laptop. I have now done a lot of research, and a amd-based laptop that will do games are pretty slim to pick from. Even the x700 ones, which will _kind of_ do games are hard to find. The only one people I could find that made a amd based laptop with a decent vid card (ie nvidia) is cyberpower.
