I noticed in the flyer that there's a mouse that looked identical to the Logitech MX-700 for $24.95.
Does anyone think it would be comparable in quality if not re-badged?

The mouse is not identical. Not sure of the manufacturer either. I game a ton and wouldn't buy the MX-700 only because I'm not sure I could adjust to the optical "eye" being off-center like that. I may still get one of these mice for $25 bucks. Tough to go wrong.

Onto the machine... Someone was asking about the mobo in it. Obviously it has to be okay since it offers an 8x AGP slot BUT only 3 PCI slots (if I am reading German correctly), see the link below and edit if you can understand German.

Link to Medion PC Review -- in German

Search on "PCI" to see what I mean. At first this concerned me but in retrospect I think it's fine. This mobo offers onboard LAN, modem, sound, firewire x2, and finally a bunch of USB 2.0 ports. Everything I might ever need is built in so I think 3 PCI slots won't hold me back.

As for getting one (and I will) the manager of the Aldi's by me told me that last year they sold out of these in no time at all. The hours of the store are open at 9a.m.. He also told me that he will hand out numbers at 5a.m. for the first 35 in line (equivalent to his inventory on hand) and then you have to make your purchase by noon on BF. If you don't they sell first come first serve after noon. Not a bad deal. I can go home, warm up and maybe sleep until 10a.m. or so.

That's all I can donate at this point. Good luck to all who decide to brave the cold for a nice gaming rig!!

I don't speak, read or write german, and I couldn't tell the spec sheet from a menu in a german restaurant. I couldn't tell if it said 3 pci slots or wienerschnitzel...😉 I'll take your word for it....🙂

Based on Aldi's locations, it looks like people on the East Coast and Mid-West finally get a store that people in the West don't get to enjoy (the vice-versa being Fry's Electronics).

The following review in german lays out the technical specs in a way that should be pretty easy to understand even if your german's not too good. Of course, the specific info on pci slots looks out of whack 😕

thinlizzie: go for the m700. I game a ton, and I love it. It's the first wireless mouse that actually does what they claim it will. I have tried almost every other wireless mouse out there, including Microsoft's overpriced offerings, and the lag was ridiculous for gaming. The mx700 is the best investment I've made in a long, long time.

Just a reminder...Aldi does NOT take Credit Cards....
You will need either cash or a debit card that will allow you to spend $1000 on it...
I know my debit card won't allow any single purchase over $500.

That being said, my neighbor manages an Aldi in Indiana and is definitely NOT looking
forward to this....and I don't have $900 to spend on a PC right now, although if I
did, this is an awesome deal.

Uhh if you have ever been in one of these you'd retract your thoughts! I have been in a few looking for this computer and man, let me tell you... nasty! Really about as third world as it gets. They only have a deal like this once or twice a year, it's really a bulk item grocery store.

I'd trade Aldi for Fry's (from what I see here on the AT forums) anyday!!

Now we do have Meijer's, they are good. Lots of Super Saturday sales in there.

And thus your point in posting all this is? I mean regarding whether or not this is a good deal.

Who's going to buy one?

I was thinking about it but have no idea if I have a preset limit on my debit card at the bank. Is it pretty common to have a limit on debit cards? I hate to get there try to buy one after standing in line, then have my debit card rejected.

If you've got the Google toolbar installed you can right-click "Translate" and get a choppy but understandable translation of it.

One of the reviewers seems to think that in light of the 3 ghz being out, this machine will be worth less than 1/2 in a year or less. I hate that....🙁

Please... ANY computer purchased today will be worth half, or more likely LESS, in a year... Just the nature of the computer game.

Big Ed...

Is it your job to bust everyone's chops?? I made a simple comment on the store, no harm no foul. You bust my chops?? Is your post anymore to the point of the deal than mine was??

'nuff said I think.

No, No, Yes.

I decided not to buy one. I did drive by the Aldi's and noticed about 15 people standing in line. I'm not sure how many computers that were going to have in stock.

good point!!!!😀

That's most likely the largest amount of money that anyone will ever bring into an Aldi!!!

We have one in a parking lot of a strip mall (in a bad neighborhood) which has a Kroger down the street..all the homeless guys walk past the Aldi as they go to Kroger. 😀

I'm currently typing this on the 17" LCD Monitor I got from there... quite awesome I might say.

There were about 10 of us in line, I was first... and it was kinda funny because me and the guy 2nd in line both came for something OTHER than the computer... people there didn't know what to think!

Aldi's near me in NJ still has over 20 of them left. Cashier said only like 2 people were in line this morning. She said last year there were a lot more in line and the had to give out numbers, and they sold out.

DVD surrond sound home systems (Tevion?) seem to ge going faster.

Have you tried gaming on this LCD? How are the specs compared to other LCDs?

Just picked up the computer and couldn't resist the cordless mouse. Hope it's as good as the Log.
There were only 2 computers left when I wen't in at around 11:00 am here in Youngstown, Ohio. As I was leaving, 2 guys were "having a discussion" as to who was there first for the last one. There were plenty of monitors and cordless mice/joysticks available.

I won't have time to get it up and running but I'll put a review of comp./ mouse when i get a chance.

Just curious, do you have other computers? I still have parts that I am supposed to build one or two with, but I couldn't refuse this deal for myself...🙂

Also, anyone know if you can upgrade the Home XP to XP Pro, with the full XP disc (not an upgrade)?

I have Pinnacle Studio 8.0 and wondering if it's better then the video software that comes with this computer. I also noticed no TV tuner, so I will try to install my PCTV pro. Chripes, I hope I don't start adding and changing too much stuff or this hot deal will soon turn cold......🙁
