I posted this in another thread, but the response was slow. Colorado is extremely naive when it comes to wildfires for whatever reason. The big C-10 tanker that should have been used right away in the Black Forest was instead used at the Searing Gorge first. Just a stupid decision and I'd like to know who made that call.
Air support was slow, response from neighboring fire departments was slow. I saw the smoke at 1:30, went to a doctor's appointment and at 3:30 was barely seeing fire trucks responding out to the Black Forest.
In a forest that dense with a ton of landowners not doing shit to remove deadwood or safeguard their property and the bad winds that day and dry conditions, 2 hour response time just to start driving out there is sad. The buildup of firefighting assets was extremely slow too. There was just no appreciation for how fast and bad these things get.
After last year I'm not sure why that is.
