:(

Had an Aunt and Uncle that had a beautiful house there. They moved out a few years ago, but still a terrible situations. That was a gorgeous area. Walking outside at night was incredible when there was a breeze. The stars and light "swishing" noise of all the pine trees was surreal.

i gotta put some of the loss on the home owners not having a tree and ground clutter free zone around their house. the pics i have seen show houses going up with trees just 10 feet away from the structure.

Yeah. Stupid. Especially after last year (or any of several other high fire seasons).

Maybe they figured they'd be safe on the East side of I-25. Fact is that if you live near dense trees in Colorado, you're not immune, period.

Another meaning to the term "black forest" after being charred like that :(

Supposedly 9 out of 10 wildfires are caused by people. Stupid people. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those were caused by retards flicking cigarette butts out their car windows

Sounds like having a wet spring didn't help Colorado.
Unfortunately not wet enough. So sad. Two years straight with my city on fire....hits me right in the feels.

Almost 400 families lost their homes. Two people have been confirmed dead. I realize there have been worse natural disasters, I get it. But come on, making jokes about this? Fuck you if you do, you should be ashamed!

I posted this in another thread, but the response was slow. Colorado is extremely naive when it comes to wildfires for whatever reason. The big C-10 tanker that should have been used right away in the Black Forest was instead used at the Searing Gorge first. Just a stupid decision and I'd like to know who made that call.

Air support was slow, response from neighboring fire departments was slow. I saw the smoke at 1:30, went to a doctor's appointment and at 3:30 was barely seeing fire trucks responding out to the Black Forest.

In a forest that dense with a ton of landowners not doing shit to remove deadwood or safeguard their property and the bad winds that day and dry conditions, 2 hour response time just to start driving out there is sad. The buildup of firefighting assets was extremely slow too. There was just no appreciation for how fast and bad these things get.

After last year I'm not sure why that is.

Yeah and anyone who jokes about the holocaust or other genocides need to be shot /s

Humour is a device many people use to make light of serious situations, if you are so broken a person that you can't ignore something that makes you uncomfortable and refuse to look at it from any light besides your own maybe you shouldn't be on the internet.

Jokes can and will exist relating to everything from self-immolation to cancer ridden children.

Did you see the video I posted? That homeowner did great fire mitigation to protect his property.

As for the 'slow response,' I, too, saw the smoke around 1330. Fire department scanners were already lit up with first responders moving on the fire, and people starting to evacuate the area.

Not sure if you were in the area for Waldo Canyon last year, but we had air assets dropping thousands of gallons of slurry on the fire to keep it from entering Queen's Canyon. It made no difference whatsoever. The fire blew right through all of those air drops and tore into the city. You cannot always control mother nature.

What you said is true but most people make jokes on the internet about sad events because they are arseholes not because they are using it as a coping strategy.

Most people make broad generalizations that can't really back up with proof too

In either case, it's their right to be an asshole and i'm sure it personally makes them feel good being assholes, who are we to tell them to stop? If it bothers you, don't pay attention.

This is true but I'm confident that when distasteful jokes are made the vast majority are just being dicks rather than struggling to cope with their feelings of loss.

They can be arseholes, I can call them arseholes.
