well it works good if u are already in the market for a coffee maker, toaster oven, or blender....

jcrash, you oversimplify things. I have used giftcards to buy additional items that have gift card rebates. If you keep the string going for long enough, you can eventually get the percentage savings in the 90% range. Assume that you use this gift card to make another purchase that is also pay $20, get a $20 gc. Then, you still have the initial $20 investment, $40 worth of merchandise, and a $20 gift card remaining. I have done this sort of 'parlaying' GCs at best buy and compusa numerous times. True, you never get all of your money back, but you can get well beyond the 50% mark.
