Never seen these before until a friend handed me one with some pics (or our wedding) on it. My laptop drive (burner/reader), desktop DVDROM, or DVDRW all can't read it.

What's up with these things ? The burn side is completely black.

They are made of oure evil. Your Norton AV is probably doing its job when you feed it to your unsuspecting pc.

Remember, pure evil.

Are they also made out of pure evil? I didn't know they had that much to go around.

I've never tried that, but I heard they were more scratch-resistant than regular CDR's, any truth to this?

the base plastic is near black, instead of the clear they usually use. Since CDs use IR lasers, the plastic used will allow IR light to pass through, but it looks opaque in the visible light spectrum.

I've got a few black cd-r's and have nothing but trouble reading them with just about any cd-rom drive I have....(minus burners, they seem to read them fine for whatever reason)

My 2 year old kenwood car deck reads them fine, but my friends new JVC lower end MP3 deck won't.
I haven't had any trouble reading them on computer in recent memory either, and IIRC, they worked fine in my Pioneer DV-525 DVD player as well.

Black CD-Rs are supposed to be better for audio too, since the light from the laser scatters less when it hits it. Or at least thats what audiophiles say.
