Looks like us "right wing" homophobes have some company..........

its nice to see people speaking plainly and making sense, to qoute the article:

`This is neither a hate nor a fear issue,'' the statement said. ``People are free in our nation to pursue relationships as they choose. To redefine marriage, however, to suit the preference of those choosing alternative lifestyles is wrong.''

bigot: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices;

So if you give some tolerance to an opposing view, and then come to an intellectually justifiable conclusion, your not a bigot; If you are tolerant of those that have views that differ from your own, then you're not a bigot.

it looks to me like these ministers have given it thought, and have come to an intellectually justifiable conclusion; It looks to me like these ministers have plenty of tolerance for those that want to live a lifestyle they disagree with;

Were all bigots. But at least we're not homosexual bigots.

Please temper your gay bashing. There are ways to state your position that don't include unadulterated hate.

i know, the clowns around here are free to violate forum rules left-and-right; i can only conclude that it's because of a particular bias by those who lock-and-ban.

I don't know. If you change the context from gay marriage to interracial marriage, would we then not call these folks bigots?

Just so you remember, there were laws (and still are in some jurisdictions) that forbid interracial marriage.

I believe the key word you used here was intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. The intellectually justifable conclusion you are precluding to is soley based on their devotion to their prejudices; their devotion to their faith. They have no tolerance for people who want to live a lifestyle they disagree with. In their eyes, homosexuality is immoral and should not be justified by allowing homosexuals the right of marriage. I agree that some people are born homosexual, just as some are born black. A person cannot deny who they are. We should not judge with them for being who they are. By doing so we do make ourselves out to be bigots.

I'd support a redefining of the term to 'Union' which would accrue all the rights and benefits currently provided the term 'marriage'. Where all people 'joined' are 'unified' for that purpose and let the term 'marriage' continue on as between a man/woman. IOW, all folks are 'Unified' and some are married and some are lacking that status because they (homosexuals) are not of different genders... A distinction without a difference.
Now then, to disagree with allowing all folks the rights afforded some folks while each exist in a legally similiar stead would be supporting a discriminatory condition.. and be without rational reason.. IMO.

The intellectually justifable conclusion you are precluding to is soley based on their devotion to their prejudices; their devotion to their faith.
The intellectually justifiable conclusion i offer is that of utility, has yet to be disproved, but has often proved officer down right in getting me called a bigot; Basically: sexual activity that's bad for society over all shouldn't have a government stamp-of-approval on it. The only argument I've gotten to say this isn't logical is a non-bigoted logical view is an attack on me as a person, instead of what I've said.

They have no tolerance for people who want to live a lifestyle they disagree with.
Tolerance isn't the same as agreement with. You don't have to pretend you like something to tolerate it; If they didn't tolerate this kind of behavior they would be preaching about how a law to lockup or kill those who have homosexual sex is needed.

for example: many don't like Christianity because to those living in the dark the light of God is a constant reminder of what they don't have *or for those of you in the dark: 'those Christians and their pretending they are better than you really piss you off'; of course no one is better than another, but some accept free forgiveness*
but no matter the view tolerance is called for.
