Black and White

Ruptga

Lifer
From what I hear, Black and White is a hilarious game, but I can't find much on it. I found a demo for its sequel, but the sequel sucks, badly, and I'm not yet ready to give up on the idea. Granted, the game is only five bucks, and I'm probably going to just suck it up and go in blind, but I'd still like to see if I can get some opinions.

If you don't like 2, then you REALLY won't like 1 IMO. I thought 2 improved on almost everything, but still wasn't great.

I agree. 2 was quite playable. The first just bored the crap out of me.

IMO 1 is better. I might have just disliked 2 because I followed it for a long time and Molyneux disappointed (as always), but it had some better things. 2 has better city building, but I like the way miracles and the creature work better in 1.

I liked 2 better than one myself, though admittedly, my system at the time of BW1's release was less than stellar so I couldn't enjoy the game to its fullest extent.

I still have the CD for BW1, but I lost the CD key long ago.

I bought it on its release day because the hype for it was so big. It was definitely a major letdown.

The nostalgia that comes with BW1 might be part of it for me, too. The advisors were hilarious, too. I remember getting my first *personal* computer (ie, my brothers and I had separate ones) when I was 10 or so, and it was awesome. I COULD PLAY ABOVE 640x480! I COULD READ TEXT!!!

I thought 2 was what 1 promised and should have been, so yeah, if you don't like 2 I can't see you liking 1 very much.

I didn't like the demo for 2 because, despite getting several villages to migrate into mine, I never actually took control of any other villages. It seemed like the only way to actually win was through conquest, and even that was a pain in the butt. I sent wave after wave of soldiers into their main city, and my creature, and bombarded the place with whatever giant rocks I could find, and they still were throwing out armies left and right. Also, this is after some six hours of playing on just two levels! Maybe I was just doing it all wrong, maybe it's because the demo had me limited to swordsmen (no archers), I dunno.

B&W2 was a buggy disaster until the final patch. Then it was quite fun and stable. Unfortunately, they never patched it's expansion BotG and it was terribly Buggy.

the more you build the more you influence or whatever it is you get and then they will want to migrate to your city.

thats how i played a majority of the game. I rarely sent out an army.

😱 Dangit, I knew I was missing something stupid like that; I thought I would actually gain control of their settlements, not just have their people join mine.

I never played the second one, i heard it was more like an RTS.

The first black and white was really funny, i had one hell of a laugh when i picked up a boulder and smacked it through one of the big houses, all the little people inside came out screaming "ahhhh" "atttack" "ahhhh", i threw a tree at them and they fell all over the place it was hilarious. Its funny to pick one up and drop the down a really really high mountain, theyll be kicking all the way down, its awesome stuff lol.
