Bizarre network speed problem

I have a T1 at home and I used to get 1500+Kb/s on the Cnet test. Yesterday I noticed my line was really slow. I was downloading at like 30-40KB/s from everywhere. I have a couple of system on the lan and all of them were still blazing. I checked my hardware router and my Linux firewall and all was well.

I even swapped NICs on the system and still getting only like 128~Kb/s on the system. They funny part is that upstream it's blazing, according to the DSLReports speed test. Check out this screenshot.

My only guess is that some trojan or program messed up my registry. I don't think the MaxMTU stuff applies to XP, and I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong.

Anyone??? Please help!!! :)

this is a simple thing that might and might not work
clear the temporary internet files it seemed to help me when my computer slowed down...
(on this computer it was really slow but i would go to another computer in my house and the speed would be really fast)

just a thought to try...

Yeah, tried that, thanks tho. It's something really f'd up with networking.

Hey dwell, I think it's a bad patch cable from your hardware router to pc.

:)

Actually I think it's a bad cable. I plugged the incoming cable right into the PC and things were ok. I don't have another one so I guess I will find out tomorrow.

Have you tried FTP? Especially try directly from your linux box. That will help you determine where the problem is. Also, it could be a problem with your T1 line. You may want to check your router and/or call the telco that services your T1 line for help.

Nope. it's probably the cable. When I plug the incoming line directly to the PC it gets insane download speeds again. Got to get a new cable today to be sure.

Argh. It's my Linksys WAP Router + 4 port HUB. What a POS. I am going to try and return it for a SMC model.
