Hey Ladies and Gents,
I've got a VERY weird one. Had a NIC go bad in a computer the other day, or so I thought. It would always look connected, but you could do barely anything. Put in another NIC and it seemed ok at first, but then degraded really quickly. I noticed a TON of packets being sent (switch blinking) from the machine and started to wonder if it was perhaps a cabling problem and switched the connection down to 10Mb/s and half-duplex. That worked some and I could then get to the local lan, but not the net. Made a LONG hookup (cable laying on the floor) from the machine to the switch and at first BINGO!... everything was fine and flying. Rebooted the machine and.... WEIRDNESS!
Now under network connections there is a new icon titled "Internet Connection" under "Internet Gateway". I'm not sure what it is, but it looks like it wants to share a connection as part of ICS or something. I've got all my IP settings put in manually but CANNOT get out onto the net. EVERYTHING on the LAN is fast and sweet... but no NET! I've tried to disable this "Internet Connection", but nothing happens. If I click on it's advanced details button I do get a list of things to proxy, but I don't want to proxy anything... I just want it gone!
I've gone through the Network Settings Wizard a number of times and told it that I connect directly through a LAN, but it makes no difference.
I've deleted the NIC (hardware manager), rebooted and reinstalled, but all it does is give me another iteration (Network Connection 2) and the second I try to go to the Net the first time, that "Internet Connection" icon appears again and I get nowhere!
I've tried DHCP and did a renew and IPCONFIG says that I've got all the right info... but nothing to the NET. I've gone back and done everything with static info... same result.
Anyone got ANY ideas?
Joe
