Bizarre Abit KT7 problem

Well, I got my Abit KT7 running my Duron 700. I have a really bizarre problem though...any kind of hard reset, whether it be the reset switch, power switch, or anything, will result in the computer not posting the next time I start it up. If I unplug the machine for about 10 seconds and plug it back in, it will boot up fine. Any suggestions?

Did you do the pencil trick on the L1 bridges before you installed.
Also try setting the jumper for suspend to ram, located across from the battery, the location is in the manual.

Are you running the stock speedd of the Duron or overclocking? I had something similar when I was trying to overclock and the chip just wasn't quite unlocked. The pencil trick didn't work for me. I've been too busy to even get a conductive pen to finish the job.

Sounds like a short.

Are you using felt washers between the screws and the motherboard? If not I would suggest trying it. Also make sure there aren't any extra screw risers from the case touching the motherboard underneath.

I run a thunderbird 800 non OC and run into the similar problem with powering up. After I am running, I have no further problems unless I shut down.

Well, I am NOT overclocking right now. It does the same thing whether I pencil the bridges or not. I'll check for a short...I don't have felt so I am gonna have to make paper washers, they should do the same thing.

The washers ARE not required between the screws and the mobo. All the mobos holes with a soldered ring around them are designed to be connected directly with the screw. Don't mess with washers. You do NOT have symptoms of a mobo short. The normal symptoms are failure to power on, or a failure of a certain component. Check with your mobo manual, there are some options regarding power states. Also make sure that you have the connectors in the correct location.

I have always thought my problem with "power-on" has been ACPI related and not a short. This ACPI is new to me. It would be nice for someone the explain some default settings to bein with. I could then eliminate this issue in solving this problem.

Hmm...the problem seems to have fixed itself...dunno how...although now it seems that my multiplier isn't unlocked even though I have pencilled the bridges and the system is posting...
