BitTorrent

Every so often whilst downloading the speed falls to 0kB/s and I can't use the internet at this point, occasionally it's just the case of having to connect to another seeder. However more often than not I have to close all internet apps then turn the modem off then back on before I can use it again which is unbelieveably annoying and I have no idea why it keeps doing so.

Bingo... same here. Actually at times during using it, all my network is pretty much dead.. I have to shut it down... close all apps.. reboot modem and such. DOnt know either.

Are you using standard torrent ports? If so, your ISP is probably detecting and throttling you into nothingness since they think you're downloading movies and warez - probably rightfully so.

Yeah I think so, is there a way to get round it?

Depends on the client you use. RTFM.

Some ISP's will use packet scanning, so they'll throttle anything with a given packet signature regardless of the port. Course this isn't the easiest thing in the world to do so most ISP's don't.

Find a client that uses UPnP and port randomizing. BitComet does so I believe. Enable it and restart at least once a day. Fixes my problems.
