From reading other threads it appears that it is possible to dl at speeds > 100 kb/s. However, I am among those who top out around 30 kb/s when dl one torrent and < 30 kb/s for each additional torrent. I mainly dl live shows from db.etree.org and use the following:

ABC (Yet Another Bit Torrent) and have set my router to open ports 6881-6999 which increased my dl results slightly but am still not seeing the results I would like.

I have a cable connection with Norton Internet Security 2002 installed and was wondering if that may need to be configured as well? If so, how because I am not seeing any where to allow specific ports only ip's.

Any other suggestions?

I had the same problem, the only thing that soolved it was enabling a DMZ.

Nice link! Between that and enabling DMZ I should be able to increase dl speed. Refering to the link provided it did not answer another question I have been curious about.

What purpose do the "Web Services" serve? They can be Active or Inactive and it appears to me to make no difference.

simple port forward (or not depending on your router brand) should do the trick.

i've hit my MAX download speed by port forward.

Ive just started toying with BT, the speeds are fairly impressive but only for ...ahem... new "releases". You can still get MUCH fsater from you local newsgroup server.

What Im finding is a GREAT pile off odd-ball movies and TV shows. Full season of Undeclared on its way! (at 5k...140hrs )

But IMHO thats all its good for right now. Use your newservers... youll find more new stuff and usually at your full dload speed as its locally on your network.

I'm experiencing some REALLY slow download times of late... they top out at 5 kb/sec on my DSL connection. I've had d/l speeds varying from 20-100kb/sec before
Uploads continue to go on at 25+ uninterrupted.

Why is this happening? I never had such low d/l speeds until a couple of weeks ago. No config has changed ... ports 6881-6889 fwd'd to my machine. I've tried turning off the modem and router, but no dice.

Could the ISP be capping me? Doesnt seem likely though, otherwise even my internet downloads would be slow as sh#t.

Help!

If none of the seeds or peers you are connected to have fast uploads, then obviously your max download won't be high. Make sure you are downloading torrents that have large numbers of seeds and peers, that will maximize your download speed.

I do all my downloads from behind my Comcast cable modem and my Netgear router. Nothing special setup at all, no ports open, nothing.

I use Azureus as my bittorrent client app.

Hmm... I'm not sure if this is any good, but the torrent I'm currently d/ling has:

# Connected seed: 4 (6)
# Connected peers: 31 (79)
# Seeing copies : 6.998
Avg peer progress: 37.8%

What do the numbers in ( ) mean?

My current speed is 4.5 down, 60 UP :Q

Try capping your overall upload speed to 25k or so. That should help somewhat.

I think the ones in the parentheses are how many seeds/peers the tracker sees and the numbers outside are the ones you see or are connected to.

Well it does SOMEWHAT... but still doesn't give me the consistent 20+ d/l speeds I had before

Strangely enough, I went back into the router and deleted the NAT settings, and I'm having better luck now... 30D/45U

To determine if it is your router or not try taking the router out of the scenerio.

You may very likely see your speeds jump to well over 100 kb/s which tells you that something is still not set right.
