Now there was a product that claimed it would shatter GPU space, yet turned out to be vaporware.

Much like Larrabee / ray tracing. And that "infinite geometry" demo that keeps popping up every 2 years or so, yet never materializes into anything useful.

I am necroing this thread, as there are undoubtedly readers that have never been exposed to this classic meme, or BitBoys aka the vaporware kings. Also having owned a 5800Ultra bitd, can confirm all the jokes.

What got me thinking about all this, was re-reading an old article about how Intel snaked AMD on the OG Xbox deal, to the extent it surprised some AMD employees in the crowd at GDC that day. But more relevant to the GPU forum, is that nVidia (the capital V was how it was spelled back then, for you n00bs) won the contract over Gigapixel. Gigapixel was acquired by 3Dfx, which was then acquired by Nvidia = game, set, match to Nvidia.
