what do you use, I wouldn't mind switching

uTorrent. It's easy to switch cause the GUI is just like Azureus. But it is lightweight, unlike Azureus which uses Java.

I use Shareaza and right now im downloading a whole ****** load of music, atleast a thousand songs (8 discograpies 15 gb), using BitTorrent, and most of the transfers are moving at like 2kb/s if im lucky. But if im downloading more popular music and just the album, ive hit 2mb/s.

Not bad...

I usually get well seeded torrents at ~600 kB/s, and downloads regularly at 860 kB/s

I would like to say that atleast up here in Canada, there are no laws that say it is illegal to download or upload copyrighted material.

but you can get IP filtering for RIAA/MPAA with azureus and other plugins like auto-download with RSS. Does uTorrent have that stuff/

You do realise that's the equivalent of erecting a 1000-foot bilboard outside your house with "HERE BE PIRATES" in huge black letters?

No, you use PeerGuardian, and still save on RAM.

And what is the RIAA going to do, they have no jurisdiction in Canada, our recording artists association isnt even allowed to sue people such as me or every other person that i know that downloads music. The RIAA can bother me all the want but thats all their going to be able to do is bother me, can't sue me or anything.

You are wrong on two counts:

1. Although it is not illegal to download here, it is illegal to upload. And that download loophole is based on a shaky split decision of the SSC, which could easily be overturned in another test case with only a slightly different situation. Also, there was an updated copyright law tabled in the last session of parliament, which would have illegalized downloading. The only reason it's not on the books now is because the proccess was interrupted by the election. Now, unless you think that the conservatives are going to be less corporation-friendly than the Liberals, we can anticipate another version of that same law to be tabled in this session.

2. There is no law that prohibits the RIAA from suing Canadian citizens under Canadian law. They could do it anytime they had cause. Also, we have the CRIA up here, which is essentially the same body.

We are currently enjoying a quasi-free copyright regime in terms of downloading music, but don't take it for granted. It's gonna come to an end soon.

See my edit. I also have QoS turned on with bittorrent ports set to 'lowest' priority so I can still surf the web and not notice any lag.
