Bit the bullet and did full install instead of upgrade

The upgrade goes smooth until it gets to about 67% complete on the last step. I get an error and it reverts back to XP. I tried running the Upgrade Advisor and it bombs out as well.

I am running a C2Duo 1.86 at 2.8
2 gig of DDR 667 at 800 (2 more gig on the way)
Sata Raid - 2 160 gig drives
Creative Xfi Fatality
X1900xtx
P5NE SLI Mobo

I completely removed Symantec AV thinking that was the problem, still no luck.

Should I stop overclocking during the Upgrade Advisor and the upgrade?

I don't really want to do a full install, but I can if that is the last resort. The only thing that worries me is if it does the same thing after wiping my system out.

Thanks

The only thing I see is the raid might be getting in the way of your upgrade??

Why though? It loads everything up to the final point of install. I mean it reboots like three times. Then the final stage before going into windows blamo. :)

I thought when it did its download it grabbed those drivers. Is there a way to install the Vista raid drivers before doing the upgrade?

Heading to check out the drivers.

upgrading your OS just leads to more problems than it's worth. even if you get this probelm fixed, another will arise i'm sure.

do a proper clean install.

I know that to be the truth, I just don't want to reload all my junk. Especially all the Steam and Q4 and Q3 maps. :(

It's gonna suck, i know, but do the clean install.

It usually takes me a week to get my systems back to order after a reinstall since i have so much sh!t to install...

4 PC's I have done upgrades on, 4 PC's I have revisited and done fresh installs.

It may be a pain but it's worth it in the long run. You will have performance issues if you don't and probably get frustrated over Vista as a result. A clean install makes a massive difference.

Your system is desperately trying to tell you that it doesn't want to downgrade from XP to Vista... :p

Installed very quickly as a full install. I have some learning to do, but I think it will be worth it.

Thanks for talking me into the full install.
