I emailed one of the editors about a week ago. He is known for his rants on technology. So, I asked him to write an article about EFI to encourage mobo makers to get on the bandwagon. Guess what? He did! He's a really nice dude.

I have been using EFI at work recently...well, it's a proprietary version of it, but it's still EFI. EFI > BIOS.

For those of you who aren't aware, EFI stands of extensible firmware interface. BIOS should be legacy already - EFI is the next step.

btw OP, that's cool.

indeed. I never knew about EFIs until now. I agree that MS has to eat the cost and make the change first cuz hardware manufacturers definitely wont be the first to move

I think the key for MS is to consolidate its offerings. It is wasteful to have 9 different versions of Vista. At most two, Vista and Vista Server. Just have install options that let you select what you want or are licensed for. That way popping EFI in wouldn't be such an undertaking, and hopefully the code would be better too.

So you were the kid playing with Legos?
j/k, I realize he had to have a better introduction than "Some random person from the internet emailed me, and I thought I would look into this."

Um, how is that different from how Vista works now?

Many people thought with Apple now using EFI that the rest of the PC world would be pushed towards it... especially MS. Doesn't look like it though.
