NO, the OP did look again.

I was wrong. For some reason my browser went to your post as the first, sorry about that.

You did quote a post from April though. Even you thought they would have something in 28nm out as soon as August. Obviously, many of us overestimated TSMC's ability to deliver. Makes it hard to take advantage of any technological lead one might have on the competition when the 3rd party Fab can't supply for you. Then we'll suffer through production teething pains. By the time TSMC gets up to speed much of the lead over nVidia will have been reeled in. Unfortunate for AMD. Especially when people assume it's AMD's fault and label them as failing.

Again, sorry. I didn't mean to falsely label you. 🙂

Obligatory grain of salt.

Would it even make sense for a refresh to be released 1 month later? That would make no sense.

I'm talking
7850 then 1 month later 7950 and
7870 then 1 month later 7970.

Were would the 7950 fall in relation to 7870? Seems VERY unlikely to me.

Dont forget another "refresh" in march.. i mean what the heck is a 7990 and where does that relate to 7950 and 7970?

All these numbers!! OH MY!

The 79** cards are not going to be refreshes of the 78** cards. They will be the next models up in the line. Like now with the 6870/50 and the 6970/50 cards.

?

7850 and 7870 are mid-range cards, likely around current 6970/GTX 580 performance.

7950 and 7970 are the high end, faster than anything on the market currently.

its look like AMD want to break PCI-e spec again 🙁.

i hope its not over 500watt card 🙁

Why do you say that? From leaks/rumors, FWIW, the 7970 is going to have a *190w TDP. That's less than the 6970 by a good amt (*250w).

*Working from memory because I'm too lazy to research it. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me. 🙂

This is what I fear. Looking at the current line up a 6950 is only 10-15% faster than a 6870. If the 7870 is only around 6970 performance then we can realistically hope for the 7950 to be only around 20% faster than the 6970. Because the gaps are unlikely to be bigger going by current trends.

Instead of going keeping up power consumption and going for 1.6X - 2x performance increase like in the past. We may see only 30% more performance for single and AMD instead selling on low power efficiency, crossfire scaling and other features.

This gens midrage $200 graphics card being faster then last years $500 high end card is nothing to be disappointed about, after all its just a shrink to 28nm

But the high end is a fully new core with double the power so i think we may see the midrange at 15% faster then GTX580 and Highend at 100% faster

Why do you fear this?
If you can get almost top end performance for 250-300$ it's pure win for gamers.

If the specs are true, i see a huge performance and price gap between 79xx and 78xx, much like 57xx and 58xx had two years ago.

Yes, we have no idea what GCN is going to do for performance over VLIW. I really hope nvidia gets their act together and can commit to a release date by the time AMD has the 7979 out.

Promises of future announcements or nothing concrete is not going to do anything to get a lot of people to wait after the mess they made with their initial 40nm release.

Does anyone know if the nVidia 6xx series and AMD 7xxx series are going to be released at the same time frame?

AMD Will have High end cards out at the start of 2012 and could have midrange cards out befor the end of this year

Nvidia will have both midrange and highend cards out sometime next year, my guess is early next year but as the 600 series is a large complex GPU it requires extra time to market, here's hoping they can keep it within a few months after AMD.

I think three 7990's in crossfire would make for a very fast gaming System 🙂

Wonder how much they would cost and what would be the best CPU to match with them
