Bit of a strange power on problem with my A7V system...

Last night, the pc in my sig worked great, running just like it should. I powered off abouy 8:30, and it stayed off until 4:30 this afternoon. I come home, try to turn it on, and no go. No fans, nothing. The green power light on the board is on, and I unplugged it long enough to reset the power supply, but it still didnt work. I let it sit for about a half hour, so I could read some posts on AT about similar problems hoping to find an answer. I found some combination of moves that worked for others with Asus boards, so I went to try them, but out of curiousity, hit the power button again. This time the fans all powered up, spun up the drives and everything. But I get NO video. The reset switch doesn't appear to work, and it doesn't act like it's trying to boot even. It's sitting again, I'm going to give it another try and hope for the best.

But if it turns on, I'm going to worry. Is this the beginning of a power systme failure? I have clean power here, ran lots of PCs in the past. No bad weather recently, so thats not it. Should I order a new power supply and call the company I bought this one from and try and return it? What's your guys take on this situation?

Did you unlock your CPU with a pencil? You might need to redo it if you did. If not, try clearing the BIOS by shorting the solder points on the board (see your manual). You might also want to try lowering the multiplier with the on-board dip switches. These have worked for me in the past...

Have you tried clearing your CMOS? Its done by taking a screwdriver or anything metal and touching those 2 little things in your motherboard.

I actually had exactly the same problems when i changed cases with my A7V133. Unplug the power supply from the wall, then hold down the power button until the green LED on the MOBO turns off. Then unplug the PSU from the MOBO, plug the PSU back into the wall and plug the PSU into the board.
I did that and it worked for me.

Good Luck.

Well, it's on now, or at least it booted. I haven't used it beyond that. A most strange problem...

datallah, I saw your post in another thread, and I was going to try that when I got it to come on but not show video, and I was headed up there to try it when it booted. I'll keep that method in mind if(when?) it fails again.

The CPU is unlocked, I don't think it was with a pencil (bought it used, looked like some sort of goo was used). I may pull it out tonight and take a closer look. I hate doing that, cause I don't trust myself and the heatsink.

I'll drop the multiplier down to 11 if I get the same problem again. I kind of wonder if the CPU unlock is failing, because this is so sudden. I'll try a CMOS Clear too.

Looks like the PC is going back on the bench again :D
