Title says it all. Is bison considered beef? As a hindu and a carnivore, I am intrigued by the prospect of bison steaks grilling on an open fire 😀

But in all seriousness, I've googled and googled and have not been able to find a definitive answer.

EDIT: 2nd question, can Hindus eat bison?

Is pork considered chicken? No.
Bison is considered bison, just like deer is considered deer.

Beef is a cow animal, not a bison animal.

For a hindu, yes. Also, if you've never eaten beef before, it will make you sick if you eat a full steak. You need to start with small portions and get your system used to it.

People who "consider" bison to be beef are wrong.
Bison is Bison, not beef.

As Spidey said above, is pork considered chicken?

They are both bovine, but still different. I bolded the differences.

Cow:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Artiodactyla
Family: Bovidae
Subfamily: Bovinae
Genus: Bos
Species: B. taurus

Bison:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Artiodactyla
Family: Bovidae
Subfamily: Bovinae
Genus: Bison
Species: Bison bonasus

For some reason, I keep thinking the term beef refer to a type of meat/animal just as the term "poultry" refer to birds. I've never seen or had bison but it's cowish enough for me to think it's beef. 😛

That's interesting - I never knew that.

How about the obvious answer, since they don't have bison in India, I doubt any of the 10,000 religions hold the animal sacred.

Also, adhering to diet restrictions posed by any ancient religion just seems so stupid to me. We now have penicillin, and know that in the absence of Viagra, that there's no way Krishna had all those babes.

Of my Hindu friends, 95% of them eat beef anyway and the other 5% are vegetarian.

Just about any food your body is not used to will do that. Your body will cut back on production of enzymes that it's not using to increase efficiency. Depending on what it is and how much, it can be a simple case of gas, or it can be a case of spraying some butt mud for a while.

Me too. Bunch I haven't tried yet that I'd like to...Bison, duck, dog...

well, I can say I LOVE duck, when it is done well. I love rabbit, again, if done well. Lamb is always great, so is veal, venison, quail... Don't want to try dog... EVER. Would like to try buffalo too.

No... to me, it has a "richer" deeper flavor.

No, it's a little gamier, meatier, fattier, and much tastier. It's like steak crossed with chicken, so like sticken or something.
