Well it's that time of year again and I'm looking for gift suggestions to buy for my father. He likes certain TV shows, sports, he travels, hes into a lot of stuff. Any suggestions are welcome thanks!

and I have thought about some type of Tivo device because we have way to many tapes around here but I don't have the money to pay the $250 service fee or the monthly fee. Is there any device that doesn't have listings and doesn't have that extra fee?

Thanks Again!

Yes, you can do that... But for everyday life and simpleness thats way to complicated, my mom would probably throw it out the window because she cant even check her email without help....

If you and your sister go together, you could probably get him a Tivo with a year's worth of subscription. Then next year, chip in and get him the lifetime subscription, or he can take over himself.

My dad LOVES his Tivo.

Also, TV shows on DVD are good too. I saw last night the History Channel's best of Mail Call season one is only $25 for 7 episodes (which is a pretty good deal)

I bought my dad 1 year of DSL service. He's always wanted it but didn't want to pay for it.

If there's a cable-company provided DVR, that's probably a good bet too. Much easier to hook up than a Tivo (but that's not overly complicated). Plus a lot of times there's either no charge, or it's small enough per month that it's not a bad deal.

The only thing with a cable company provided DVR is you can't watch something else if the DVR is recording. Since my parents' cable is basic and doesn't require a tuner box, I just split the incoming feed to the Tivo and the TV, and hooked the Tivo up via S-video and RCA audio. This way, they can watch one thing on the TV if Tivo is recording another show. They just have to switch to the Tivo to watch whatever they are recordig.

You still might be able to split the signal, but it might be digital on one and analog on another.

Not with my DVR box with Comcast. I can record two shows at the same time while watching a previously recorded show. Or just record one show while watching another. Very cool. It costs me $10/month though.

I recommend an intro flight lesson--most flight schools have them at $50 for one hour, you get to fly a Cessna yourself with an instructor next to you.
