birthday present for a kid

so I'll be returning to Japan here in a few months and I need to get a present for my host family's child. She is a kindergarten student, maybe 6 or 7? Since i've never been a 6 year old girl I have no fucking clue what they like. I don't want to get her something Japanese, so don't recommend a totoro doll, nekko bus backpack, or something like that. What do typical 6year old girls get now-a-days? I'm thinking some kind of neat beanie (toboggan) or fashionable winter clothing would be nice, since it will be getting cold. Last time I saw her she made me play some kind of shopping store game with her, so maybe some kid play set? Anywho, thanks in advance.

P.S. all the legitimate posters, please try to ignor all the young japanese girl flamers that will inevitably set this thread ablaze.

thanks for the comments, i suppose i should have mentioned that it should be something simple to play with. she can't speak or read english (well, she can count to 10, lol) so the dolls with websites would be useless :/ I suppose i should also mention it needs to be relatively small and lightweight; it has to go in my suitcase

edit: also, are these kids at risk of eating shit like blocks and play-dough?

dickinabox is always a pleaser.

Webkinz are cool - digital pictures displayed on a screen in the belly of various stuffed animals, so think medium stuffed animal size for packing purposes. Art sets are great and come in a variety of sizes. Good luck!

looking into all the suggestions, my budget is <$50

also, do kids these age eat play-do and blocks? i don't want to give her something she might choke on
