We use the pill and condoms. AND we are married.

No reason not to keep it 100% sure until you are ready to have kids. Plus, you can't be sure she wont forget, take it late, eat something or take some meds that weaken it, etc.

I was on the pill for about 3 years. I hated it. It was effective, however, i often times forgot to take it and when i doubled up on the pills, i would get sick and throw them back up. It wouldn't even have a chance to get into my system.

I was so happy when the Patch came out. I have been using it for over 4 years and am VERY happy with it. I have lost weight from it, my skin is still clear from it, not a bad period, mood swings.. well, i am moody to begin with :p
Other than that, it is great beacuse i don't have to remember to take a pill every day.

But, with the BCP, if she takes it on time, everyday, she will be fine. use a condom for the first month she is on it so her body can become use to it before you stop with the condom.

Good luck.

She doesn't worry about the blood clot issues that are all over the place with the patch?

I see that one being taken off of the market after some lawsuits.

I would never want anyone to take that.

Know someone who almost died with it. She passed out in the forest and lost all color, blood pressure dropped to nothing and she spent an hour throwing up and dumping out her bowels. She was clawing at herself saying over and over "Get it out. I need to get it out." She fished for it and threw it on the ground. It was pretty horrible to watch.

Worst BC I have ever had any experience with. I hope it's banned.

It stops certain hormones from allowing the egg to hold onto the sides of the uterus or others stop the egg from taking in the sperm and stuff

It's synthetic progesterone, it makes the body think the girl is about to release an already fertilized egg throughout the month, so the uteral lining is thickened and the egg isn't dropped. Just do it you ass.

The patch raises the likelyhood of a blood clot from .01% to .03%. The media just loves to spew that it triples the chances. Notice that I didn't say fatal blood clots, but blood clots in general.

BTW, 7,600 people died last year from taking aspirin, ibuprophen, etc. I'm suprised the media doesn't jump on that, too.

No i am not worried beacuse: I don't smoke (that increases the risk) also, the chances are about the same as the pill (normal does not Orthro-Lo). I was talking to my mom about it and she said the BCP she used in the 60's/70's had even more hormones in them.

The risks get higher as the women get older.
i get my check ups every year and if my dr feels it is not safe, i will go off of it.

pill+condom is extremely safe, but perfect use of the pill is extremely effective on it's own; if you want to avoid using condoms, you'll need to abstain or wrp it anytime the pill is used incorrectly (missed or late). There are other things that reduce the effectiveness of the pill (antibiotics are one, IIRC), so you'll want to find out about that. Condoms do kinda suck, but used correctly they're the safest thing out there, really.

It worked perfectly for us for 4 years, but those were the most psycho and moody years she ever had. I was starting to wonder who the hell I had married, and then she went off of them and I found out that she still existed as the fun-loving and lighthearted person I had married.

One of my exgf's was like that. I can't be sure, but the pill may well have contributed to the end of our relationship. She started out as an amazing, smart, fun (and horny;)) girl, and ended up none of the above (well, still smart I suppose).

I say use a condom anyway. Use the pill like a backup, because you never know.

my g/f has high blood pressure and dr. just switched her to a kind that doesnt have the estrogen hormone in it and is the only difference...so i'm quit nervous about this as the previous kind as worked well for us for last 2 years, i just wonder if not having the hormone in it is just as good as having it..somehow i doubt it or they wouldnt have those in it to begin with

I have a friend whose first child was concieved despite a condom, and his second child was concieved despite the pill.

That said, read directions, follow instructions, and use both methods. Be sure to read the drug insert for the pill, it should say the effectiveness rate. Also look it up, google, webmd, etc.

If your girl friend is on birth control let me know if everything is alright. Is it like 99%? Have you went all the way and not had any issues. I heard she is supposed to take it for a month before i do anything which is fine for me. So give me your thoughts please.

Ok, I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but some types/brands of birth control have caused some women to have problems achieving orgasm. Something to do with all the physiological changes it brings out. Someone on one brand of bc pills may have problems, another may not, or someone might only have problems with the patch. And there are probably reports of women who cannot achieve orgasm when using any hormonal birth control.

Just thought it'd be fair to mention in case it happens. It's not necessarily either of you who are at fault.

OK, so she was taking another medicine that reduced the pill's effectiveness, but still

If it wasn't as good, they'd never bother selling it. The basic pill works for the vast majority of women that use it, so there's a really small market for alternatives - they have to be pretty good to get any sales at all.

Instead of swallowing the final two tablets, the second course of pills was inserted vaginally in the four women, a so-called "off-label" use of the drug that studies show works and is widely recommended by abortion clinics but does not have federal approval.

There is a reason why drugs has labeled indications and uses, you take something off label you will suffer the consequences from time to time. Especially in a drug that is fvcking with your system like RU486 is.
WTF? Morons...why wouldn't they just swallow the thing? Seems to me it would be a bit more comfortable, too...

What's the chance of the girl getting preggers if you ball her near her period(like two days before its expected), and do pull out? I'd imagine it's pretty much impossible for her to conceive, considering a girl is only fertile ONE SINGLE DAY the second week after the period.

'cept it's not like your sperm dies 5 minutes after the act. Some of it sticks around...and women aren't very consistent on timing..trust me, that's NOT a chance you want to take.

Pretty much, if you take it the right way, it works. If you screw up, it doesn't.
Yep, he's got it. About 4 years on BC only no issues. Will say tho that she may have to try diff versions to find the one that's right for her. Some cause health issues, others cause weight gain, others cause sexual drive loss :(

What? They said it was BIRTH CONTROL, didn't they? What were you expecting?;)

I'd heard 1-3 months, to be as certain as possible. There's always the option to double bag...or even triple bag. Run implants, the pill, morning after, etc.
