Birds keep eating the dog food...what do i do?

Everytime i walk out into the yard the damn birds are all over the place. They eat about a half a big bowl of dog food a day. Anyone got any ideas on how to leave the food outside but only let the dog get to it? I can't poison or kill the birds since i live in a fairly populated area, the neighbors would be pissed with dead birds all over their lawn.

How about don't leave his food bowl full? Feed him at set times, & put away whatever he doesn't eat.

that used to happen to my dogs too...then i stopped feeding my dogs as soon as the food ran out. thats when they stopped actin like the bitches they are, and started killing the birds that messed w/ their food.

I know how you feel, the danged birds are terrible around here too!

You may need to build you a box that is open only on one side, and put the food inside of it. That way, when the dog wants his food, he just walks to the open side. Find which direction the birds are coming from (probably the direction away from your house), and point the open side in the opposite.

Yeah! that way i can even attract more birds!

They're probably not eating it. They probably take a piece, go bury it, take another, etc. I've seen jays do that.

Feed them several times a day if they're big eaters. Small portions. Make them finish it or take it away after 10 or 15 minutes. They'll get used to it.
