$1 more at newegg gets you a M7VIZ -- which has the "newer" KM400 chipset

(I bought the M7VIZ from mwave and have been happy. If you're interested, know that the M7VIZ came in 2 different configurations (mine is a v5.something) -- one with SATA ports, and one without. I forget the other differences, but that is why I went with mwave -- cuz the user comments at newegg said "no sata" and the specs at mwave said "sata")
In all my research I have yet to find anything convincingly bad about biostar. Usually the bad comments come from peeps that spend twice as much for their Asus and rank on Biostar saying "they must be cr@p at that price"
(full disclosure: I've had a biostar mobo go bad on me once, but I'll accept the possibility I had a lemon)

yah, I still got a Biostar M7NCD Pro board (nforce2) that was $40 AR. One of the ATA headers died after about 6 months and the voltages are too unstable to push the hardware much, but it was CHEAP.

The Raid card I had to buy offset that CHEAPness at bit, however... I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a Biostar mobo again, ...but cheap is good. Newegg bump.

Is this a Retail or OEM CPU?

How does the VIZ compare to the VIG? Is the only difference the "newer KM400 chipset"?

I am ordering something similar to that type of setup (onboard video definitely needed) and I almost pushed the order button last nite for the VIZ but I wanted to do a little more research. I've been building boxes with the VIG mobo way back since rev1.0 (supported both DDR and SDRAM) and have loved the board.

I posted this in another thread as well but it seems appropriate here as well:

I have been very unhappy with the service at compgeeks, and know quite a few people who feel the same way. I'd be weary of buying *ANYTHING* from them.

I bought a defective wireless card from them a month ago and they've made it very difficult to return it. Their customer service is as likely to hang up on you as talk to you (has happened to me several times), and they ignore their email. I have resorted to disputing the charge through my CC company.

I glanced through the specs of each and the one thing I noticed was that the VIG only supports agp 4x, whereas the VIZ supports agp 8x. If you're using the onboard video, that probably doesn't matter much.
I have not researched what the differences are between the KM400 and KM266.
I bought the viz when I had reason to believe I'd get onboard sata -- and I did -- but that's a ymmv thing.

My one annoyance is the absense of built-in midi port.
edit: (It does have game-port pin-out on the mobo)

I just thought I'd give my $0.02 worth about Compgeeks. Are they a place I've bought from multiple times in the past? Yes. Do I think they're a good merchant? Hell no. I am VERY careful what I buy there. The last order I made, I ordered an el cheapo keyboard/mouse combo, a CD case, and their USB adapter kit (none of which are high-priced nor likely to go bad items). Would I order a mobo, cpu, or video card from them? No way!

Following my advice here, I've yet to use their customer service (but I am aware of how bad it is). So order with caution from CompGeeks is my suggestion.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think I'll go with the VIZ model.
