Bios Update

I need to update my BIOS. I'm a newbie at this and it makes me a little nervous. The manual gives instructions on how to back up your BIOS. However, how do I know what the filename of my BIOS is so I can back it up?

Any pointers or stuff I need to know would be most appreciated!

Why do you need to do this? Unless there is a specific problem or issue with your motherboard that is solved by an update, don't.

I got a new Western Digital External hard drive and it keeps scrambling my BIOS. It change the order of what hard drives boot first. It usually makes itself the first boot device. The techs at Western Digital suggested I update my BIOS. I managed to get that done (it sure didn't work the way the manual said it would) but that hasn't solved my problem.

I think some systems like to make an external device the default boot device whenever it is connected. You may have to find a seperate setting to disable that.
