My computer doesn't have a floppy drive. How can I update the bios using a CD-R?

Thanks,

Joey M.

Other than putting the .bin file and the flash.exe on the CD and booting to CD, is there anything else that needs to be done?

Thanks,

Joe M.

I've got a newer BIOS that i'm trying to flash but I can't figure out how to do it the best way. I think booting off a floppy and then doing it would be good, otherwise is there a way in the BIOS to flash directly? Mine has an option to.

Some newer boards have the flash prog in ROM, and some board makers now have a flashing prog that runs in Windows. Check your board manufacturer's site to see if they have any options.

Make a botable Win98 cd with the flash utility and bios file on it. Boot from the cd. It will create a ram drive. Copy the flash utility and bios to the ram drive. Switch to the ram drive and execute the flash utility with the recomended switches.

I once tried to update bios in windows using MSI's own software
Downloaded and began installation
right before it was all done, I got this error
My heart jumped up into my throat and I tried it again, and it redl'd and reinstalled with no problems.
Upon reboot, everything worked and has since. I consider myself lucky dodging that bullet and will never do a bios update in windows ever again
