BIOS Update Question

Can't seem to find info on this subject anywhere.

I bought an ASRock 775i65G Mobo a month ago with the intention of getting a C2D 4500 CPU after the price reduction. I now see that the E4500 has the (M0) stepping which requires the P3.20 BIOS. I think that the BIOS version that is presently on the Mobo is the 2.80. I don't know this for sure because I don't have a 775 CPU to try it out.

My question. Will the E4500 boot up with the earlier version so that I can do a BIOS update in DOS?

Any advise will be much appreciated.

most likely not.

seeing as it that most motherboards needed a new bios to support the newer G0's vs. the older B2/B3's.

That's what I'm afraid of. I even thought of getting a Q6600, but if I received a G0 it might not POST.

Well, an update from ASRock:

Dear ASRock America Customer,

Yes, you can boot 775i65G up with Intel Q6600 G0 stepping CPU, then update the Bios to 3.20.

I hope they're right!!!

I'd have a hard time believing that you could not boot up because of the new cpu stepping. All that you would read about on this board would be about everyone?s DOA motherboard.
