BIOS Update Question

Can't seem to find info on this subject anywhere.

I bought an ASRock 775i65G Mobo a month ago with the intention of getting a C2D 4500 CPU after the price reduction. I now see that the E4500 has the (M0) stepping which requires the P3.20 BIOS. I think that the BIOS version that is presently on the Mobo is the 2.80. I don't know this for sure because I don't have a 775 CPU to try it out.

My question. Will the E4500 boot up with the earlier version so that I can do a BIOS update in DOS?

Any advise will be much appreciated.

Not 100% sure, but most likely it won't boot up. I asked similar question for a different ASRock motherboard and that's the answer: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Single

ssiu,

Thanks for your reply. But I just got this from ASRock:

Dear ASRock America Customer,

Yes, you can boot 775i65G up with Intel Q6600 G0 stepping CPU, then update the Bios to 3.20.

I hope they're right!!! It does make some sense in that the newer microcode update appears to be necessary for windows to load.
