Bios update help !

I am trying to install a western digital 40gb hard drive on my sisters pc. I cant get it to recognize the hd at all. I figure that I need an updated bios. It has the Award 4.51pg bios in it right now. I have searched and searched and cant find a "free" upgrade. Since when do you have to pay to update your bios? Anyone throw me a bone here?

You need to know the motherboard model and revision number, if any. There are a lot of boards that use that bios.

you will never have to pay for a mobo bios............... is the HD even getting recognized in the bios? If not, its probable a jumper or cable problem.

you may also check if the motherboard supports multiple drives on one cable, assuming your sister already has one. Also check the jumpers on the drive.
