bios update HELP!? update: solved

i'm swapping in a Q9550 into an asus p5e-vm intel g35 board from a e4300.

the bios identified and posted with the 9550.

But i got a warning as vista booted that there was an unknown chip and it needed a bios update.

do i need to put the e4300 back in and flash the bios, or can i flash it with the 9550 in safe mode? or can i just ignore the warning since it got to the vista login screen(and vista is just being fussy)?

update:
reinstalled e4300. tried ez flash in bios controlpanel. "rom id not compatible"

Ok, mayday all hands.

so ez flash2 wont accept the rom id. I downloaded the last 3 official bios flashes from asus. no luck on any of them.

i made a bootCD and ran the dos executable(afudos.exe or the latest ver afu236u.exe)
it still wont accept the flash. "not compatible". What the hell is going on?

I can't find any .bin files, which is what my searches seem to indicate others are using. do i need to rename the .rom?

can a mod move this to cpu/oc.
maybe more people over there have dealt with bios flashing than here.

maybe you downloaded the wrong BIOS?

what exactly is your motherboard? P5E-VM SE or P5E-VM HDMI?

yeah, just found out there are like 5 versions of my board(pebkac). HDMI e-tail version.

got the bios to work thru ezFlash. only now i have sleep mode problems with a new psu.
[when it rains it pours, arrggh.]
