I apparently (somehow) posted a "blank" post on this thread earlier ago... let's try again:

I've added a AOpen CRW-1232a 12X10X32X CDRW drive to my niece's computer and when I was going through
the CMOS setup options I saw a couple of settings I've seen before but am not sure which "values" to use.

The options in question are in the following AWARD BIOS CMOS SETUP:

Chipset Features Setup:

1) SDRAM Precharge Control: the F1 "help" key recommends "disabling" this feature, anyone have any more DETAILED
explanation of this setting?????

Power Management Setup:

2) Throttle Duty Cycle: the F1 "help" key recommends 62.5% for this one. The available options are 12.5,25,37.5,50,62.5 and 75%.

Any opinions/ideas/suggestions on this one???????

PNP/PCI Configuration:

3) PCI Latency Timer (clk): the F1 "help" key does NOT give any recommendations on THIS one but when I load EITHER the
BIOS or the SETUP defaults for the PNP/PCI Configuration page, the mobo selects 32 in BOTH
instances.....

What do you think????

BTW... the system configuration is:

Intel PIII 550 MHz Slot 1 "Katmai" CPU
Shuttle AB61 (Intel BX440) Mobo (this one was NOT my choice... long story)
128MB Mushkin HP Rev 1.5 PC-133 SDRAM running at PC-100
Maxtor 92048U8 20.4 GB, ATA-66, 7200 RPM Hard Drive on a Promise Ultra 66 PCI-IDE Controller Card
AOpen CRW-1232a CDRW Drive
Pioneer DVD-115 DVD Drive
Gigabyte GA-GF2560T GeForce 256, 32MB AGP
Turtle Beach Montego II Soundcard
USR/3Com Model 5687, 56K, Data/Fax ISA Modem
Acer Acerscan Prisa 620P Parallel Port Scanner
KDS VS7i 17" Monitor
Logitech i-Touch Cordless Keyboard (PS/2)
Logitech Cordless Wheelmouse (PS/2)

BTW, the system is running very well under Windows98SE with the recommended settings.

I want your opinions because, well, what fun is it to use a motherboard manufacturer's recommended settings???

:D

THANKS PLIO :D What a GREAT site!!!!! Answered 2 of my 3 questions......couldn't find "Throttle Duty Cycle" but the other two
were spelled out in a well-written, easy-to-understand fashion. I've saved the link to that site... THANKS AGAIN.....

Now, does anyone have any info on the "Throttle Duty Cycle" option?
