Checksum errors are common if a BIOS flash was not followed by clearing the CMOS. What happens is some of the older BIOS settings are retained in the new BIOS, the system expects only default settings hence the checksum error. Most flash programs allow you to clear the CMOS in software with a /cc switch but I prefer to do it manually with the MB jumper which momentarily shorts the +3v CMOS supply to ground.
