BIOS ROM Checksum Error?

BIOS ROM Checksum Error, I assume this means that the BIOS is fried. Them Motherboard is a Tyan Trinity 400 S1854 with an Award BIOS.

Maybe not....
I know some mobo will display "BIOS ROM checksum Error" even the floopy drive cable is reversed. (I believe it was this DFI 810 mobo)

Try entering the BIOS setup and and select "Load all Default Settings" or something to that effect. That should fix the problem.

Checksum errors are common if a BIOS flash was not followed by clearing the CMOS. What happens is some of the older BIOS settings are retained in the new BIOS, the system expects only default settings hence the checksum error. Most flash programs allow you to clear the CMOS in software with a /cc switch but I prefer to do it manually with the MB jumper which momentarily shorts the +3v CMOS supply to ground.

I tried shorting the BIOS via motherboard jumper still get the same message. System was running then hung, did a CAD and when it tried to reboot that is when the message first came up.

I just experienced the same problem this weekend. As my son was exiting his game the
system just froze. A reboot produced the error. You cannot enter the bios as the system
doesn't even post. It just prompts you for a system disk. I d/l the latest bios from abit in
an attempt to flash the bios. No go. Luckily the board is only 3 months old & I was able to
return it under warranty.
