BIOS Reset

Could be a BIOS battery issue. If your battery is weak/dead, it may be impossible for your board to save any settings changed between boots.
 
It wouldn't hurt, I don't think. They should be cheap, just make sure you get the right kind and maybe check to see whether or not replacing the battery would affect your board's warranty (if it's still in effect, and I don't THINK that it would).
 
No, it's an ordinary battery, typically a CR2032.

If you tell us what mobo it is, we can tell you what battery it needs.

You can typically see the battery voltage in the BIOS.
 
The battery itself will have a number on it that tells you what type of battery you need. In the vast majority of cases it will be a 2032.

If it's not the battery, you might have a jumper or short on the clear CMOS pins on your mobo.
 
FWIW, do NOT, EVER, EVER buy a cheap, no-name battery for your mobo.....they are crap, will not last very long, and are subject to corrosion leaks and splitting open, most likely ruining some things in the process.

For a dollar or 2 more, you can get an Energizer or Duracell and be way more assured of the quality and longevity. Sure they could suffer the same defects above, but it's been my experience of building/using and working on pc's for the past 15 years that this is 1 item you do not want to cheap out on, at least if you value your components and your sanity 🙂

to wit: I put Duracell 2032's in several (6) of my families rigs that I built for them over 5 years ago and not a single one of them is even close to needing replacement yet.
