I have an Abit motherboard and I recently took out the CPU and put it back in again
Upon trying to put it back in some pins were bent but I bent them back into place
And it fitted the slot fine

So I go to boot, it reports the CPU is either UNWORKABLE or that it has changed...

Fearing it might be because the CPU was dead, I pressed F1 to save changes, and it booted into windows just fine, I;m running Prime95 right now just to be sure

My question is the BIOS will report hardware changes sometimes, does it do this with the CPU also? I mean maybe if I changed CPUs but this is the same CPU...

Is there a way to clear the bios on the motherboard and then reseat the processor to see if it picks up the proper settings again? Oh, and what does windows recognize the cpu as?

If you are even getting into windows and are able to run Prime95 then the cpu is WORKABLE and probably not permanently damaged. Bios has detected changes from cpu removal on some previous boards that I've had such as my old K7 ECS board. If you are still concerned with a possibly faulty condition, I say take the CPU back out, reinstall the cpu and HSF and make absolutely sure you are installing it properly and carefully, if you are sure the cpu is in correctly and it still boots windows/prime95 etc. after starting back up, then I would completely ignore the error message in post. BTW, what are your temps, and did you remove the cpu while the mb was still powered?

Kind of ramblin so I hope this makes sense :)

You might want to download CPU-Z, and see if it reports your chip as having the correct amount of cache. You should have 128KB of L1 and 256KB of L2 cache for an Athlon and 64KB of L1 and 64KB of L2 for a Duron. If your Athlon is a Barton, it will have 128KB of L1 cache and 512KB of L2 cache.
