Hey guys -

I'm putting together my first computer.. I just put everything in and it gives me a "CMOS BATTERY LOW" & "CMOS SETTINGS INCORRECT" on startup. Also, it says my CPU is a 1ghz not a 1.4ghz.. How do i fix this stuff? I cleared my CMOS by changing the JP4 jumper on the mobo to 1-2 but i guess that didn't help.. BTW it's a K7S5A w/ Athlon 1.4ghz, 512mb DDR RAM, etc.. Help is highly appreciated

First of all, you gotta put a new battery in your mobo. Then you can move to the next problem...

The mobo is brand new - why would the CMOS batt. be dead already?

BTW: it says this now on startup...

700mhz T-Bird

CMOS MEMORY SETTINGS INCORRECT
CMOS BATTERY LOW

If the board was manufactered some time ago, the battery is low because it drained while sitting on the shelf. However, I've still got the original battery on my old Asus T2P4...it's about six years old now.

Which leads me to suspect you have a faulty board, and it's sucking the life out of your battery. A faulty board may also explain why it doesn't correctly show your CPU speed. It's been known to happen from time to time...

I just ran to the store and replaced the CMOS battery.. It still says it's low, wtf? I even cleared the CMOS and i get the same error message. Do you think it's a junk mobo?

Please replace your mainboard

1. CMOS battery low meas
a defective or discharged battery
b defective mainboard

2. New board locking up and assuming that everything is good (cables, hardware, PS, Etc) and board is proerly grounded, indicates that the board is bad

I'm not sure about the battery problem. Since you've replaced it, I agree that it may be a defective board.

As for the CPU speed, the K7S5A defaults to a 100Mhz bus, regardless of what CPU is installed. After the first boot, just go into the BIOS and change the CPU BUS speed to 133Mhz...
