The rundown:

I have a custom built with 3.2 p4, 1 gig ddr dual channel ram, asus motherboard, 120 gig hard drive, nvidia geforce 4 128 MB, and an Asus P4c800 Delux Edition mobo. with Windows Xp Pro service pack 2 installed.

I recently reformatted, and changed hard drives, and system was having some issues with a bad hard drive from maxtor. so now that i have new ones in and everythign is working, my boot tells me:

Scanning IDE drives........No drive attached to Fasttrak Controller
Bios not installed

this is slowing down my start up, and i dont know what is causing this i can press F2 and start up in bios and i can change bios settings and everything, so i mean obviously they are installed. whats the prollem? and how should i go about fixing this?

No clue.

But the first thing I thought of when you mentioned "bios not installed" was those funky Compaq systems that had a software based bios. Just to play with the bio settings required the user to feed the machine some floppies. And that was as recent as the Pentium II era. *shudder*

Sure its says BIOS, and not drive(s)?

If it is BIOS, then it might be reffering to the Fasttrack controller? Is it an add-on card or a controller built into the MB? If its onboard, you might look in the mobo BIOS and see if you can disable the controler (un-used SATA conroller maybe?).

It used to say the exact same thing for mine. I just turned off the Promise controller and it completely bypassed that at startup.

^^ correct answer :) The controller isn't supposed to install its BIOS when it doesn't have any drives hooked up. Normal & expected.

Yeah, if you don't have anything connected to the promise controller like a SATA drive, just turn it off in the BIOS under Boot Set up or Peripherals.

Yep. Adaptec SCSI controllers too, or just about most any add-on storage controller with its own BIOS that supported booting from and access from DOS. But they do tend to give heart-stopping error messages to the unwary, don't they?

Is it Serial ATA or IDE-based?

Press F6 at the beginning of the Windows setup, when it says "Press F6 to install third-party drivers". It'll then need a floppy disk containing drivers for the hard drive controller. The manufacturer of the controller will have drivers at their website; download ones for WinXP, and decompress them onto a floppy disk.
