Bios nightmare- let's start with something simple

Earlier tonight I flashed my bios (Soyo 6ba+4) in an effort to try and solve a freeze/ lockup problem I have had on and off for months. Not a good idea on my part, at least so far. I have had all kinds of problems since the bios flash so I'll start with one that I assume has a simple fix. When I shut the computer off now (Win98 se) it no longer fully shuts the system down, it kind of gives me a dos screen, all black with just the cursor at the top left. Any ideas on how I get the computer to shut off completely like it always did from start-shut down??

Thanks

You have to make sure that the default power settings are at least changed to user defined and enabled. Flashing the bios may have defaulted the value to turned off or disabled for power management.
