bios help

Hello i have a bit of a prob i have a AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+
Speed : 1.53GHz on a fic mb am37 Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 133MHz (266MHz data rate)
Maximum FSB Speed / Max Memory Speed : 2x 133MHz / 2x 133MH Model : KM266-8235
my bios is a Phoenix Technologies, LTD
Version : AM37308
Date : 12/16/2002
Plug & Play Version : 1.00
SMBIOS/DMI Version : 2.30
(EE)PROM Size : 512kB (4Mbit)
this bios gives me no options such as multiplier speed and voltage i did find a web site http://www.fic.com.tw/support/motherboard/bios.aspx?model_id=107
for a bios upgrade but will it give me options to ajust the multiplier and voltage
plus in my bios there is no option to disable bios gardiean maybe it dont have one
please help

What does your manual say? I also have an 1800+ which runs very nicely @ 2 GHz (133 x 15), which is the setting for the 2400+. If your chip was manufactured before AMD locked the multiplier, it could be good for that. The BIOS update info in your link says the VLB43 BIOS added support for the 2400+ and 2600+ so you'll need that to try for more speed, but I don't know if FIC allowed their boards to ignore the default settings. The newer VLB44 BIOS info says it dealt with some compatibility problems with floppy drives, so that may be your best choice.

alright now i need to know my motherboard the only writing i see on the board is AM37
i called hp they told me the manufacer was a company called SALSA What the hell is This???
when i type in am37 ......FIC comes up arent they the manufacers???Here this might help

Forget about overclocking a Compaq. The only 3 things in that box worth keeping are the processor, hard-drive, and cd-rom (hopefully it's a cd-rw) drive. Well, you could keep the PC2100 ram for your mother's computer, or sell it, but it's not going to be any good to you as an overclocker.

Just about everything in that bios as far as overclocking is concerned is gonna be locked down . He's right about forgetting about overclocking that system...it's a compaq.

Here's the specs for your machine Aside from the CPU and RAM, it's a dog. It uses shared memory for the onboard vid. The 40 GB, 5400 RPM hard drive may be good for a loose backup, but I wouldn't use it in a new setup.

If you're really lucky, the CPU is a T'bred B stepping, and it'll be worth the investment in a decent setup. The CPU FSB is independent of the RAM clock so you can start with the PC2100 RAM, add another 256 MB, and move up to faster RAM, later, if you want to.

well my computer has about 612 of ram and to tell ya the truth this system has never failed locked up or have i gottin
any errors.and i hade it for about a year now but what your telling me is i will never be able to ajust
or have the option to overclock ??

Basically that's what we're telling you. Buying pre-built computers won't allow for much overclocking cause they wan't you to spend more $$ and buy from them to upgrade, they don't want you to be able to just overclock it

I don't know if you could put a new motherboard on a compaq psu :-\. I have no experience with upgrading pre-built systems.
