BIOS flashing

I am planning on flashing my bios. I have a HOT-637 version 2. I downloaded the new bios program, but I don't know how to flash it. Would I have to set a jumper on the mb to flash it? Also, Would i have to write down everything that is in the bios before flashing?

My advise is not to flash it.......UNTIL, you read the directions from the manufacturer. Most mobos require you to place the *.exe on a floppy and execute from DOS. you will need the new version name of the flash and backup the old version on the floppy. If you screw it up and erase your firmware, you will buy a new mobo...So you should really read the readme file first....

Can anyone post the manufactor's website where i can find info on how to flash? and I still need answers to the other questions.

Thanks, Would I have to set a jumper on the mb to flash it? Also, Would i have to write down everything that is in the bios before flashing

hey dude, is something wrong with your board or do you want to flash just to say you've done it? You know the saying, if it aint broke dont fix it...
if you're not up to giving it a whirl, try http://www.badflash.com/
better to be safe than sorry
I dont have a personal recommendation to these folks, but it is their biz. good luck whatever road you travel...

Thanks for the site, I want to upgrade the bios b/c the new bios version will support the "new" celeron 300a that i just got. The new bios supports the 300a while the version that i have doesn't. Oh and if you were wondering, i currently have a 266mhz in my system right now.

I too was very uncertain the first time I flashed a bios. Make sure you understand the instructions and have them in hand. Take a deap breath and begin. Take it step by step and make sure you don't continue to the next step until your sure it's right. Next thing you know it's flashed and your on the other side. Good Luck!

as above. all suggestion are all good. take notes on all bios settings. read mfr. procedures and flash away. feeling it won't make it is a gives me a rush. so far been flashing bios since the intel vx chipsets period with no bios/mobo problem😉.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went ahead and did it. It worked perfectly. Now my mb supports the celery 300a. I have a quick question. If the power was to go out while i was flashing the bios, what would happen?

if the power to your computer was interupted during a bios flash, the bios would be corrupted at the very least. possibly a non-bootable computer would be the result. i only flash a computer hooked up to an Uninteruptible Power Source as a measure against that EVER happening. I hear my UPSs make noise at least 3-4 times a week.
