Bios flashing Question

My friend is planning on getting a DS3L board and a 8800GT video card.
I also have the same setup and to get my 8800GT to work a had to update my bios to support pci-e2.0.

I did this by using my 6800GT to update and then putting my 8800GT in and then it worked.

My question is this......

Is there anyway you can update your bios without using an older card?
can you do it with no video signal?

The board should come with the bios that has 2.0 support.
Order it from a place like newegg that doesn't have a lot of stock just sitting on shelves and it should have a fairly new bios.

If not , do not attempt to flash it without being able to see what its doing.
The DS3L is one of the motherboards that if you screw up the bios flash, you will have to rma the board. Find a cheap video card if you have to.

I'm suspecting though that his 8800 will work just fine .

I used a 9600GT from day 1 with a DS3L with no problems. That's not the case with me IP35-E. It simply won't boot with an 8800GS. I stuck my 6600GT in there and it boots up.

Trying to get my USB stick straightened out so I can BIOS flash with it.
