BIOS Doesn't detect Secondary Hard Drives, But Windows Does???

I'm really thrilled with the new build I purchased, but am stumped by something..

The BIOS only lists my SSD under storage connections, but does not display either of the Samsung Spinpoint 1TB drives.. I can see them in Windows and configured them via the Management console as a Raid 1 configuration....

Additionally, I can ONLY select ACHI mode for the SATA controllers.. If I try to change it in the bios to IDE or Raid mode, Windows goes to a split second blue screen and reboots..

I've been out of the PC gaming build for nearly a decade and haven't been able to find any info on this. I'm not even sure if this is a problem or common..

System Specs:
AsRock P67 Extreme 4 / 2.0 Bios
Core i7 2600K @ 4200
16GB Kingston @ 1.65 / 1600
Intel 120GB SSD -510 Series
MSI Twin Frzr 6870 @ Stock

well, you couldnt have picked a worse time to jump back in
so many new technologies, so much to learn, even by experienced users

For example, if you look on boot page in manual, you will see two device listings for same DVD drive - AHCI and UEFI
If you put in a Win 7 X64 disk (X86 has no UEFI boot) and boot to it and have a new or wiped drive, and have the UEFI selected as first then Windows will create a GPT drive during install. If you move the AHCI DVD up as first DVD select then you will create an MBR drive during X64 install.
The first HDD boot selection is a PLACEHOLDER for all devices of that type. Then you go to HDD BBS priorities icon below to select boot order WITHIN that categoery.
Same with CD DVD
USB are considered HDD
There are both UEFI (GPT) and AHCI (MBR) possibilities for all three

Fwiw: 16GB Ram must come from a single kit - not 2 8GB kits.

You cant just switch AHCI and IDE and RAID around at will. There are trick ways to do it by changing registry entries, which is a bit advanced for you at this time. If you are anticipating RAID, even if you do not do it immediately, its best to set it as so during Win 7 install, since you will still have AHCI. ("RAID ready" in manual) And of course load the latest Intel RST during install. I believe the latest Asrock bios vers. oproms are ready for 10.6.XXXX or 11.0.XXXX. RST. This is very important for SSD detection issues.

You did do the cntrl-I thingy right?

Probably you plugged those 2 drives into the Marvell SATA6Gb/s ports. They don't show up in the BIOS, they are on a separate controller (you'll see the Marvell screen after the post screen). On the ASRock they are the ports to the far right. The builtin Intel ports are the 6 ports on the left.
