BIOS clock creeping significantly

This happens all the time. I message someone on AIM, then the time stamp on the response predates the time stamp on the msg I sent.

I check the BIOS clock against my watch and it's off a few minutes.

I have Windows automatically synch with server on regular interval, but it'd be off a minute or two in a day, but not much more than a few minutes. Sometimes, it'd be ahead, or behind, but give it a day and it's off a minute or two from true time.

This happens with the computer on.

Does anyone know what causes time creeping?

You probably need to replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard. It's silver and about the size of a quarter. If you post the brand and model number of your motherboard we can show you exactly where it is located.

It does NOT lose time when the computer is off and it never loses settings in BIOS. It doesn't seem like the battery to me.

EDIT:
It's definitely not the battery. Pulled it and it checked at 3.11v.
